I really don't get the low ratings this is receiving...I use this in my living room to feed my PS3, a DVR and then to another switch to feed two DVR's and a computer.
I just plugged in the wires, powered it up and everything was online and fast. No configuration, no software to update, just pure plug and play.
If you want something simple to setup that you never have to worry about, buy this switch...I'm upgrading mine to the 8 port because my network is expanding and I won't hesitate to buy this brand based on my experience so far, you shouldn't either.
Rated 2 out of 5 by shadow250 not worth the price
pros: it looks nice. works on 10/100 ok
cons: in the gigabit mode it seems to handle data in spurts. it will go at 5-700kbps for a second then stop then repeat. it actually took less time with 10/100 mode.
Rated 4 out of 5 by EGRTech Exactly as promised
This gigabit switch is exactly as promised: It delivers a fast, reliable connection. One of the two makes a faint, extremely high pitched noise, which Netgear told me is a known issue, and that some "squelching" is normal. I placed the noisy one behind a table where I don't hear it to often. It doesn't affect performance, but it should be noted.
