Although Leika,Olympus and Nikon have made some great 28mm and 50mm lenses with small front elements, Telephoto lenses need to gather as much light as possible to compensate for the loss of 11 or more elements inside them. Most of the Lenses in the kits with single or two Telephoto lenses are lenses that have very small diameter elements. The giveaway is in the lens filter mount specification. the 17-70 nikkor lens with 68mm filter has a front element that allows it to gather lots of light where most of the listed package deal lenses have filter mount sizes in the 52-55mm range. On Digital you can crank up the ASA/ISO exposure to compensate but generally you also crank up more noise. the rangefinder window is much dimmer than my older D70 plan on using the live view function a lot as many of the options on exposure programs need the live view to select. This may be why the batteries need charging every 4-500 exposures versus ever 20000 on the D70. Video on this series is not full featured so if you are looking for full HDvideo with easy to use controls I don't think this is for you. But 24MP is excellent detail and I like all the options if somewhat non intuitive.

My D5200 was defective. It is currently at a nikon repair facility. The monitor panel refused to open. UPS notified me that it was delivered. I do not know its status.
