Rated 4 out of 5 by CinemaLover A very good comedy with a little romance
A very entertaining romantic comedy with something for the guys, this outdoorsy romp about a fishing expert who can't fish and the woman who helps him maintain his reputation is very much like the Rock Hudson - Doris Day comedies of a few years earlier. Directed by superdirector Howard Hawks and with Paula Prentiss providing the love interest, this is an excellent choice for anyone who likes a mixture of wit, slapstick, and romance in a movie with excellent production values and color used the way it was meant to be used.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Bearno This is a very cute romantic movie with laughs. I really like the older movies that are clean and you can enjoy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ShoppingQueen26 One of the Greatest Movies!
This movie is great with Rock Hudson. He is a legend and this is a movie that everyone should see.
Rated 4 out of 5 I haven't watched the DVD yet, but the purchase process was smooth and easy. I stood in line for a considerable amount of time picking up the product.
Rated 1 out of 5 by 19gto66 Not Really Widescreen
From all I can tell, this movie is not widescreen, but a zoomed in version of the 4:3 movie. For example, when Rock Hudson drops a fish on the ground in this version, the fish is hardly visible. In the 4:3 version, you see the fish actually flopping around. So there is not more side to side information here, rather, there is less top and bottom as it is being cut off. This is a wonderful movie. Paula Prentiss at her very best. But if there is not a "real" widescreen version, I would rather have the 4:3 movie.
Rated 5 out of 5 by MikeP Fishing
This is a great movie about a guy who writes a book on how to fish. But he really has never fished in his life. He gets roped into a fishing derby and somehow finds himself fishing in very strange ways.
Rated 4 out of 5 by SmallTownGirl2 "Man's Favorite Sport" is a fun, uncomplicated, and wholesome movie. The storyline is typical of Rock Hudson movies: He sells fishing equipment at a department store and writes a "how-to" book based on the fishing stories he's heard. Then he's told by his boss to compete in a fishing tournament, where his secret is revealed: he has never fished in his life. There is no intrigue or suspense, just a sweet story that will make you smile throughout the entire movie.
