Rated 5 out of 5 by Skidrough Perfect bike for light recreation
I will be using this bike for recreation and for short, casual trips around town. It's light but sturdy. It has just the right amount of speeds without a superfluous dozen speeds that I would never use. I like the slight upward tilt of the handlebars so I can ride without hunching over. The bike itself is very attractive and the ride is very smooth. All in all, it is exactly what I wanted.

This is a cool bike, I haven't had any problems with it yet, I ride it 15 miles every day i owned it for about three month's, I didn't purchase online I went to the Walmart store and purchase it, but one more thing the chain feels a little loose but it never came off with me and a few adjustments here and there but nothing to drive me crazy, I changed the tires to mountain bike tires and I and added fenders it looks really cool, check out the picture.
Rated 5 out of 5 by LordofTheOnionRings Great bike for the money!
Pros: Suspension system works well, Shimano gears are excellent, comfortable size for a 5'10" 140lb man, looks great.
Cons: Had to do some minor adjustments to the gears to make the shifting easier, and had to adjust the brake handles.
**I've had it for a month, and riden it a dozen times, and everything seems to be working well.
***None of the adjustments are hard to do. Videos for bike adjustments are available on Youtube.
Rated 4 out of 5 Inexpensive but sturdy bike for a big dude
I am 6'1" and 250 lbs. This bike frame, height, and capacity exceeds what I would expect from such an inexpensive bike. We bought it for a camping trip, and I have been using it a few times a week since at about 5 miles a week recreationaly. I have had Schwinns and Mongoose bikes before. One thing you guys need to know about these reviews. Any complaint about a tire going flat, a pedal braking, adjustments not right, chain breaking, etc. Is present with ALL bikes from $100 to $4000. These are components that essentially bolt on to a frame, are completely swappable and replaceable. These little components brake ALL THE TIME no matter what the brand is or how much you paid. So if you see a 1 star rating because a "tire went flat" or the "brakes needing adjusting" or the "pedal is cheap". Then ignore and dismiss that review. Bike enthusiasts are always throwing money away at replacing and tuning their VERY expensive bikes. This is a good bargain for recreational use.
Rated 4 out of 5 by beachfisher Good bike for the money
I'll start out by saying that Walmart has mis-categorized this bicycle. It is a comfort bike, not a cruiser bike. The Next Avalon men's comfort bike is a good value for the money. I was able to purchase mine with a rollback price of $94.94. The bike is light but strong and has all of the features I was looking for. It is perfect for someone like me who wants to do a little recreational and exercise riding. I ordered the bike from the website and had it shipped site to store. It must have been "in stock" as I was able to pick it up the same day. I received the bike in good condition with no apparent damage visible during the unpacking.
I am however, a little disappointed with some of the bike components. The caliper braking system is very cheaply made as well as the derailleur shifting mechanism. I've spent hours adjusting and re-adjusting the brakes and shifter. The reason for this, is that the cables get stretched, and the components are not mounted to insure proper alignment.
Overall, I still think that this bike was a terrific value. It rides nice, looks good, and has plenty of shifting ranges for any type of street or bike trail riding. I would recommend it to any adult wishing to start riding for pleasure and exercise.
A last word of advice.... If you are not a "mechanically inclined" person, do not attempt assembly of this bicycle yourself. Bring it to a professional bike shop for all of the assembly and adjustments.
I consider myself very mechanically inclined and found the owners/instruction manual to be vague and confusing. I would also recommend purchasing(from Walmart) front and rear lights, a speedometer, a helmet, and wider seat. These items will make your riding experience safer and more comfortable.

this is an excellent good looking bike that was easy to assemble needing only minor adjustments and tightening, but once assembled it's a beautifull looking bike

I recently got this bike, I am a beginner and overweight...the bike is working really well...I had to tighten the handle bars, but there are zero flaws with this bike, it rides smoothly and comfortably.
Rated 5 out of 5 by MrBlandings87 COMFORT!
This bike is a lot more comfortable then I thought it would be. The duel shock system really does absorb all the bumps you hit. And the adjustable handle bars are pretty cool too. It's even better than more expensive bikes out there. So happy.
Rated 4 out of 5 by twotaru Great bike at great prize
Easy to assemble....get tools then...
1) Put handle stem in first. be sure the "front wheel fork" curb points forward. Like the letter "J" pointing forward.
2) Secure Stem to max line or below.
3) Thread left break handle.
4) Put wheel in and secure with wheel retainer and washer head nut.
5) Adjust brakes and seat.
6) Inflate tires to 40 psi.
I am 5'8" and fits like a glove even up to 5'11" should fit just fine.
Good looking bike, got lots of possible comments the first day I rode. This is my third bike and trumps all the more expensive ones. Short commutes less than 20 miles its very comfortable.
Rated 5 out of 5 by raggtopp1 This is a great bike for the money...
I bought an Avalon several years ago used from a friend..The tires are the only item that has been replaced..The plastic chain guard that keeps the chain out of the spokes has become brittle with age.I will use it as a beach bike. I purchased a new one because I know how well they ride and last. Not many bikes with a soft tail and front shocks sell for less then $100 bucks.. The new one is a black beauty. The new design has a down turned bar which really helps short people ride, a very good design change.. I do not think there is another bike on the market at this price that is of alloy construction, alloy wheels and the quality to compare to the Avalon..
Rated 5 out of 5 by valentinophoto Better quality than described
My chiropractor ordered bicycling. So I ordered the Avalon bike online and had it delivered to my home. I had never seen the bike and was surprised in that the quality is much better than described. It had a comfy Vitesse seat, usually over $20 online. Instead of the steel frame as described, it had a lightweight aliminum frame. Reviewers complained about the plastic chainguard; mine is aluminum. Walmart states a 250 pound limit, but that is 320 pounds in the manual. It has dual front shock absorbers and a coil spring rear suspension. It is a really nice bike and rides much better than my old bike, really smoothing out our country roads. It shifts smoothly and 7 speeds is all I will ever need.
I don't think I ever assembled a bike, at least not in 40 years. The 20 pages of complicated instructions in the manual were too intimidating so I watched a couple of videos on Utube and printed out a 2 page instruction sheet. It took me 20 minutes to assemple the bike, and another 20-30 minutes to fine tune the brakes, steering, etc. The tires can only go in one direction, which I found out when checking the sidewalls for maximum air pressure.
The trick for easy assembly is to loosely mount the handlebars and seat. Then turn the bike upside down on the hanglebars and seat. I put it on the cut up cardboard shipping box. Then you can assemble and freely turn the front wheel, make fine brake adjustments, put pedals on, etc. Also note that pedals are marked L and R for right and left. One tightens counter clockwise.
I don't see how they can sell this good a bike for under $100. It is almost too good to be true.
Rated 4 out of 5 by troutmaster2 good street bike
I am 61 and wanted a bike without all the gears that was easy to pedal. This bike fits the bill. Gears work flawlessly. Shock absorbers really help with road bumps.
Only complaint is the seat is a little hard for me.
Rated 5 out of 5 by bluebuddha great bike for the price.
I have owned this bike for over a month and use it to commute to work every day, a total of 12 miles per day. at 6' and 230 pounds i am not a lightweight. the bike fits great!
After two weeks of riding i had to adjust my gears and brakes but that is fairly normal for a new bike. the bike manual shows how to do the adjustments and the tools required. I have found the stock seat rather uncomfortable and will be replacing it in the near future. if there is a downside to the bike, it would be that the lowest gear isn't really low enough to get up some steep hills unless your legs are in good shape and the top gear isn't quite enough to keep pedalling on some downhill sections i ride on. But then again, after a month of riding every day, I can now climb any hill on my route. It's work but i can do it...and I am 60 years old.
Rated 5 out of 5 by rtnorman This is a great bike!
The bike was good and could get very fast. The only downside for me was the seat. The seat was a little small it kind of hurt. Other than that it was fine. I think it would be a little small for people above 6.5". I'm 13 so it was just the right size for me. In conclusion the performance of the bike was outstandingly good.
Rated 5 out of 5 Great Price on a Hybrid Bike
We bought this bike for my husband, and he loves it! We bought it online and had them assemble it in the store. When we went to pick it up, my husband noticed a strange indentation on the front tire. The gentleman who assembled it stated it probably came from the zip tie they used to ship it, and kindly replaced the tire for us in store. Great customer service! The bike is very nice looking, and offers a smooth ride for the trails and streets near our house.

Great price and very good ride. Wonderful bike to any man that need cheap fun to ride and do erands.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Articwolf67 Nice hybrid bike without a high sticker price
FYI for those mechanically illiterate - the bike tires are shipped with only 20# of air pressure so you will need to inflate them to the pressure that you need to ride comfortably. I bought this for rail-to-trails & street riding. I don't need all those mountain bike features anymore. I like the suspension & multiple-gear features from a mountain bike, but not the riding position & 21 gears to choose from. I assembled the bike myself. Some minor adjustments were needed on the gear-shifting mechanism & the brake cantilevers. But in all, it fits the necessities I was looking for without the sticker shock of a high-end bike. For this price, don't expect features that you'll find on the more expensive bikes.
Rated 5 out of 5 by MitsuGTS2 Great deal on a great bike.
Shipped to us in 2 days, only partially assembled. We bought the men's, and women's, and in a short amount of time we had them put together, tires aired up and were riding them. We ride about 9 miles 5-6 times a week. The bikes are a joy to ride easy to handle, nice smooth ride. It's a win win deal, great price, fast shipping, very easy assembly, for awesome bikes.
Rated 5 out of 5 by kydude55 Great bike for the price, nice comfy seat, smooth changing gears & breaks work great. Of the 3 bikes i've purchased from walmart this is the BEST one hands down. I can pedal up small hills with ease, this bike was assembled at the store, the person did a very good job of putting this bike together, very pleased with the bike...I really enjoy riding once again.
Rated 5 out of 5 by sunjkl Feel the shock absorder
Good looking bike with bent-down frame cross bar works for both tall and short riders. Light in weight and clean look with blend-in or no eyesore "extra" design suspension front and back. They really work and you'd look for bumps on trail to feel the shock absorbers in action. And of course great value too! If you don't like it you must be either a lame professional or a very picky person.

My husband and I both got this bike and its a great purchase. They are comfy and sporty looking and they hold up to what they promise. We are occasional riders and bought this bike because of the affordable price and great mix of style, comfort and functionality! All in all great bikes!!!
Rated 4 out of 5 by Bleikr Great value, good bike
Chose this bicycle after doing research, reading reviews, etc. Purchased online, overnight to my local Walmart, I was amazed that it had arrived so soon. Very good bike for the price, however could have had better adjustment (it was assembled at no extra cost, a nice extra) on the brakes and gear shift. A little more online research and I soon had everything in tune, a bit of learning involved, but it's worth knowing how to do it yourself. Overall a great bicycle.
Rated 5 out of 5 by MissouriMommy Great bike for comfort!
I'm a female & bought the Men's version of the Avalon because I hated the Purple color on the ladies bike! I'm 5' 4" and have no problems with adjusting for a perfect ride! I added a different seat & on my first ride went 10.5 miles with no problems. The gears shift nicely & it can take moderate hills & inclines. I've owned this bike for a month & have logged apx. 100 miles. The shocks work great! I've rode it on several kinds of terrain, pavement, dirt, crushed gravel, only prb I encountered was some wet grass. This bike has a very comfortable ride & I can average 7-9minutes a miles. With only 7 speeds it's not as fast as my families mountain bikes, but I do a pretty decent job of keeping up.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Petersbeth Excellent for all around light use!
Have had this bike a few weeks and will give my thoughts.....First off it is not a High end bike as you can tell from the price, It is a great value for what it is, Lightweight, easy to use and comfortable! However, if you are going to be riding this a while you might want to replace the seat with something a little wider and soft! Like all new bikes, sometimes small things need adjusting, I had to adjust the Derailleur a bit to get the chain to move into high gear, but that was all it needed and has been a very good ride on the local path. The shock system does work and is great on the bumps and dips encountered while riding, The tire seem to work well on this model and are very smooth on all surfaces I have ridden, It is also very easy pedaling even when pulling our trailer with our dog! The braking system does it's job when you us it in normal riding conditions, If you are going to use this bike a lot on roads with small hills and longer trips, I would recommend up-grading the brakes and Shift system! It wont cost very much and will make this bike ride like a $500 bike! Hope this helps in choosing your next bike!!!
Rated 4 out of 5 by Turns Great beginner hybrid bike
I got this bike to mainly take on roads/sidewalks/paved paths/etc... I chose to assemble it myself instead of having Walmart do it. Took probably 30-45 min assembling and adjusting and I've never done it before. The v brakes on it are pretty much junk. From the levers to the actual brakes themselves are cheap. This is where Walmart saved their $ on this bike. I have order new Shimano brakes for the front and back ($13 each), metal Shimano brake levers ($17), and a new Shimano thumb shifter ($15) from Amazon. The bike rides fine with the stock components but it'll ride like a $400 bike with the new additions. Frame, handlebars, gearing, wheels and tires are all solid. Nice light and comfortable bike to ride. And unless you're racing or going up some steeeeep hills, the 7 speed will be plenty of gears for you. Can't wait to get the new stuff on it and to take it out on the road. Can't beat it for $95 bucks.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Corrales Good value. Met my needs perfectly
I wanted a cruiser bicycle for and older person (myself) that was light, easy to pedal, gears shifted easily and they even put it together for me when I order it online for store pickup. It's not a bike from the expert or high level riders, but it's help me lose ten pound over the last two weeks and is a joy to rid. Didn't care for the standard seat and plan to purchase one with a little more padding. Had to raise the seat and handlebars as I'm about 6' and it wasn't set up for me. But, for the price it's great. My son loves it cause he can buy me trinkets to fit on it for birthdays, Father's day etc. Great value, great price and great service.
Rated 4 out of 5 by RidingInCali Great Exercise Bike
For the price (I paid $130 in August, 2013), this is a great bicycle. I am right at 6 feet, and weigh in the 220's, and this bicycle easily fits my frame. In other words, if it can carry my bulk, it will probably carry yours too. The manual rates its maximum load at 320 pounds. I bought this bike as the mainstay of my new exercise/weight loss program, and I ride solely on paved surfaces, so this bike is well-designed for those purposes. In order to increase my own comfort/safety levels I added on the following accessories: better foam handlebar grips (the stock ones will literally hurt your hands on anything over a brief ride), a better softer seat (the stock one is just "okay," but it hurt me in the wrong places on longer rides), a handlebar-mounted mirror, a headlight and tail light, and a water bottle holder/bottle. There are no pre-tapped threaded mounts on the frame for a water bottle holder, so you will need one that will strap to your bike's frame.

Got this bike for my husband. He has some mobility issues and was wanting to get some exercise. He is 63 and 6feet 1in and around 225lb. He loves the bike. We have had the bike for about a month and ride every day. The only issue is the seat is a little uncomfortable. But not enough issue to cause a problem. I purchased the ladies version of the bike a few months back and love it also. I did replace the seat with the Swinn Delux Saddle Seat. We are loving our bikes and have no complaints about anything but the seat...Get a new seat and you will be happy.
