Rated 5 out of 5 Major Improvement in my MacBook Pro
I installed a 750GB Momentus-XT Hybrid drive in my two year old MacBook Pro 15" (i7 Dual Core - 2.66GHz) running Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) and I am extremely impressed by the performance. The System boots in 10-15 seconds and from log-in to desktop is now about 8 seconds.
However, the speed to load programs like Microsoft Word and Excel is even better. The splash logo comes up in 2 seconds and the program is fully loaded and operational in 6-9 seconds. Safari, iTap RDP, and FireFox all load in a fraction of the time they used to.
XCode loads in about 1/4 the time it took with the old 7200rpm 750 drive (Seagate as well). Compilations are faster, but due to size they are clearly not being cached in the SSD.
I assume that since the 750GB drive is "2nd Generation" it has improved performance over the original release.
I would recommend this to anyone looking for a performance boost without the cost of the a SSD.

I replaced a 500GB 5400RPM Samsung 2.5" drive on my new i5 2450 cpu laptop. Yes replacing yourself is the cheaper option to improved spec.
There is a noticeable improvement in close down speed. There is no noticeable increase in noise or temperature.
No noticeable difference in performance otherwise.
Overall no better than a normal drive, at best
Did some objective testing before and afterwards, I do this sort of investigation for a living, in medical device development, so it's second nature to do it. The results,
Sequential read was better by 4MB/s, to 92MB/s
Read seek time was worse, 9.6ms to 18.1ms average.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Dennis A DOG Of A Drive and no better than 5400rpm WD250
I purchased this drive with a high expectations and it is no better than the WD250gb 5400rpm blue drive that came with my E5520 Dell. All sale hype and a big lie. I am very disappointed in Seagate for pushing a trash drive. Must be rushing "time to market" with inferior drives. I recommend that if you purchase a Seagate stay with standard drives and save your money. The "real world" performance test under Windows 7 64bit platform proved that boot time and running of software were no better that a "non hybrid" drive. I challenge Seagate Support and sales department to answer honestly why all the sales hype with no substance. I am beginning to think that the positive reviews were a paid political announcement and not a real performance review. I am getting my money back and will move to Western Digital "Black" Drives.
Rated 1 out of 5 by emanymton Not recommended for Windows 7 64 on Lenovo T510
I tried for several days to make this drive work with Windows 7 Pro 64bit in a Lenovo T510. Installing the factory image on the drive works fine, booting Windows also.
BUT: Using Windows Update failes with an error saying 'Windows Update Service is not running'. Of course the service IS running...
A quick search on Google revealed this and other, even more funny problems with this drive.
I then copied the HD to another one (non-hybrid) and that works just fine in the same machine. So it has something to do with the drive.
Bottom line: don't use with Lenovo T510 / Windows 7 Pro 64bit
Rated 5 out of 5 by steppo83 A MUST HAVE!!!
I have bought 2 years ago a MacBook Pro mid 2010. I upgraded this great machine with the Momentus XT 750 GB and the difference is heavy!! It loads OSx in about 15 seconds and itunes in 1 sec (also for mail, with at least 800-900 email inside in 2 sec!!).
Same thing with BootCamp and parallels desktop!).
I repeat, A MUST HAVE!

I upgraded my Macbook Pro from the stock drive to this, and the speed increase was HUGE! Lion loads extremely quickly, applications load pretty much instantly, and photo editing is unbelievably fast. I would totally recommend this drive to anyone with a Macbook Pro who is looking to get extreme performance without the cost.
