Very comfortable and smooth. The adaptive gain feature works really well. If you roll the ball quickly, it decreases the resolution, resulting in faster movement. If you roll the ball slowly, it increases the resolution for detail work. I use this trackball for editing, and it works wonderfully.
My only annoyance is the scroll/drag function. In order to scroll, you simply press the middle button, and hold it for 3 seconds. Ball movement will then control scrolling behavior. To go back to normal mousing, just click either the left or right button, and you're back in business. Drag log works similarly, except you don't hold the center button down as long.
While it's a clever implementation overall, having to stop and wait 3 seconds for scrolling is just a bit of a drag. It's faster to just move to the scrollbar instead (see adaptive gain!).
Bear in mind that this is using the default windows drivers. I did not install the button control software, as the notes inside the box said it was unnecessary.
Not a deal breaker, by any stretch...I'm very happy with this unit overall. It's one of the best I've ever used.
