This CD was highly anticipated and I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. There isn't one song that I didn't like. There is a balance of ballads and more upbeat type songs making this record a beautiful work of art. The lyrics are especially relevant and the listener can relate to them in their own lives. Beautiful harmony and melodies makes this CD one of my favorites, and Lady Antebellum is my most favorite band. Great job!
Rated 5 out of 5 by AlessaF Writing words of the heart "Own the Night"
Lady Antebellum’s “Own the Night” and the trio’s 3rd studio album is a example and demonstration of passion and amazing songwriting The newly released album showcases the groups talents as the are finding they are finding their comfort musically and artistically together and in country music. Having seen them twice this summer, and knowing all the words to their songs, including their four #1 hits, along with being a huge fan naturally I was worried for them and the release of this album, since their last album “Need you Now” did so well, winning them 5 grammy’s. The group must have used the power of those grammy’s because this album is as good and could prove to be better as the trio has clearly found their style and comfort zone with this third album. Two hit singles released and climbing the charts before the albumed released “Just a Kiss” a love song showing how important it is to take your time, cherish it and not rush when it is with the right person, and “Own the Night” which is the albums title track lets you relish in the memories of every night you felt like the most important person and you were the shining star. With two singles like that starting off the album it’s hard to imagine it getting any better, but it does. As continued to listen I fell more in love with the album and with what made me love country music as a child. I was brought back to my high school days and my first love with “Dancin Away with my Heart”. Remembering how I thought we would be in love forever but then we grow up, and even though I’m not still in love with him or wish to be with it made me remember the innocence of first love and miss it since you never get your first love again.
One of the songs on the album, I have to say at first I wasn’t sure about. “Friday Night” a country rock and roll jam starts off rock and roll and then turns a little country and then goes back. As I listened to the words and realized their meaning I soon began jamming along and now it’s gets blasted on the speakers. “Monday morning heading back to work”, is probably the worst feeling, especially after a GREAT weekend, and I could think of a couple of ex-boyfriends that I would compare that feeling to. Describing the love of my life on the other hand would be my “Friday night sweet ride and my summertime” all things I love and want all the time. Describing your love in this manner is so unique it’s easy to see why they are multi platinum.
With all the love the songs on this album a song with heartbreak was a well added relief. “Cold as Stone” is that but with a twist. I had to this sing a couple times not because I didn’t like it because I wanted understand and appreciate it, and the more I did the more it touched and moved me. Realizing it’s not so much a break up song, but more about how the emotions of letting someone go for whatever the reason may be. Letting them go by choice! Even though you are trying to help and doing it because you care it still hurts you, and them as well. If only “We were as cold as stone” life would sometimes be easier. With a celtic feel added, and great vocals, (as usual) it’s sure to be a hit for those who take the time to understand it.
It’s hard to think of what the group will decide to put out as their next single with the diverse options and possibilities this album holds. If I had to pick it would be a toss up between “Singing me Home” an upbeat tempo-ed song with a great melody about all the little things your “Sweet love” does that “Keeps singing me home”. Then theirs “The Heart of the World” a powerful and moving ballod that brought chills to me when I listened to it and is to do the same to anyone who feels the song. Life is a delicate gift and we forget how important the small things are. “Always being up before the dawn” can wear us down, can make us forget the beauty in a sleeping child, and how clear the dark can be. A “Routine two perfect to mention” is what we strive for to get the most done in the time we have, instead we should look as “ time as a thief” because once it’s gone we can’t get it back. These things we usually don’t realize until it’s to late. This song brings all this back into perspective all of which are very powerful and meaningful.
With such a variety of songs most of which tug and pull and some heart strings it’s easy to see why and how the album is doing so well. The group is showing to be a real presence in the music seen and has made me a life long fan. I can’t say I have a favorite song on this album but the impact the first I listened to it after I bought made me pull over on the side of the road to listen to it in it’s entirely. Lady Antebellum complement each other well with their voices and Charles and Hillary both take the lead vocal on a couple and in certain parts of each songs showcasing why they are toping the charts and I’m sure will continue to do. Can definitely say I “Owned the Night” when I purchased the album and continue to do so every time I listen to it or life happens while it’s playing. Wonderful Job Lady A and Thank you for letting me feel and remember!
