This headset was great in the beginning; I loved the fact that I could rotate the mic and switch the speaker between my left and right ear. My main use of the headset was for basic communication while playing FPS, arcade games, and watching Netflix. The XC1's allowed for me to hear the sounds coming from my TV clearly without sounding muffled due to the fact that this headset cups your ear and has two slots which allows for outside noise to filter into whichever ear is being used by the communicator. The voice quality was great too. Everyone sounded crisp and clear, though a few times my friends would say I sounded slightly robotic which was easily fixed by unplugging the headset from the controller and putting it back in. Also, the gaming noise does not interfere with being able to hear what people are saying, nor vice versa. The only time I can see your concentration being thrown off is during a "clutch" moment and you are in a private chat ( MW2 hardcore search and destroy, and no I was not cheating :P ).
After about 3 months of constant (daily) use, I noticed that my headset had a short in the wire. If I moved my head or my controller a certain way this would cause the wire that ran from the controller to the speaker to give a static like sound which also led to the headset not being able to register. When I did figure out how to wiggle the cord and get the mic to register again, I was unable to hear what anybody was saying and had to change the settings to where voice played through both the headset and TV that way when the headset started working correctly out of the blue I would be able to hear through the headset once more. I believe this issue may have happened because I was constantly switching between my right and left ear with the XC1's and when you switch ears you also have to rotate the mic. The constant rotation of the mic, though it was designed for that purpose, for a period of 3 months put significant wear on the wires inside the speaker which more than likely caused the short within the headset. The only reason why I switched between ears in the first place was because I enjoy watching Netflix at night and this headset allowed for me to be comfortable while laying on my side and still be able to talk in a party.
I still recommend this headset because I know for a fact that the voice quality for hearing and speaking is superior to the xbox communicators and you are able to use both ears to hear the sound from your TV instead of being limited to one ear and straining to hear properly. If you decide to purchase these I suggest not changing the headset between your ears too frequently and try not to fall asleep with them on your head. Turtle Beach does have a one year warranty on the XC1s so if anything happens to them through normal wear and tear contact them.
My headset experiences: Xbox Communicators, Turtle Beach X1s and X11s, and Tritton AX Pros. I got tired of using high tech headsets and not being completely satisfied with their output and decided the sound from my TV was good enough and purchased my XC1 Communicators.
