Rated 4 out of 5 by nolazach Great classic-style Schwinn
Got the bike today, took it out for a quick 12 mile trip. I went through and adjust the shift mechanism and the brakes before I went. The front fender needed to be adjusted, but most of the small problems were probably just do to being on the display rack. The bike looks really good. The brakes work well, but most important, its comfortable. I find it much more comfortable than my Mongoose mountain bike, and better suited to urban riding. I think it should have had a water bottle or at least some mount screws. No big deal.
Also the bike is on the heavy side. The gears shift well, the bike comes with a manual, I would reccomend reading it, and checking to make sure the de-railer and shift mechanism are lining up as directed in the manual. You may also have to adjust the brakes so they dont touch the wheel. Overall a good bike.
Rated 3 out of 5 by 2themax Nice bike, overall good quality for the price. A small bike tool kit to carry with you is a must as there are minor things you might need to adjust, specially if the bike was assembled for you at the store (recommended)
Rated 5 out of 5 by zootsuit711 Great ride!
I love this bike!! When I picked it up from Walmart it had black tires, all 3 pictures online showed the bike having whitewall tires. Walmart switched out the tires with NO hassle at all. Now I see that the main picture has black tires but the other 2 have whitewall tires. I strongly suggest you fight for the whitewall tires, the bike looks 10 times cooler with them!!
It's a great bike, I now commute to work on it. The seat is comfortable and easy to adjust. The gears shift smoothly and it brakes perfectly... everything you'd expect from a brand new bike. At such a low price, I was not expecting perfection... but I got it!!!

i ordered both the mens and womens clairmonts for myself and my wife. delivery was Speedy and inexpensive! could have had it delived to store for free but i wanted them in time for easter. only 6 bucks delived to the door. had to do some minor putting togather not a prob. once i got them togather tho the spokes needed trued up and some adjustments needed made. the tire waved at you side to side. took to a local bike shop and had them do a tune up much better. i must add i believe if you had them shipped to the store they put them togather for you. there was a free assembly paper in the box. a couple things kinda irked me a bit tho my rear rack was bent up kinda good. and my wifes bike had a 2" scrape/scar on the side of the frame. purely cosmetic defects and with the origin of the bike and the cost i thought i couldn't complain too much. also even after the bikes were tuned up my wifes bike shifts a bit funny and the bike shop told me he couldnt figure out why. the bikes are very comfortable and stylish looking we havnt rode them that much yet but they get the job done. ride good across broken beat up sidewalks and such. once i get in shape i believe i'll really enjoy this bike. overall if i had to do it over again i might a bought the hybrid for an extra 40 bucks. but i enjoy the bike.
Rated 5 out of 5 by charlie237 Great Bike with Classic Looks and 7 gears
I had the bike delivered to my house and put it together adjusted the gears and brakes and it took around 1-1/2, I am a mechanic in a dealership so that helps. This link will help you with the derailleur adjustment, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNnX-ZFtcDE, I am going to put a different seat post on the bike with a shock it $14.00 cheep, other than that the bike is great. I see people have problems with their bike either shifting, breaks, damaged parts, just call Pacific Cycle the number is in the manual and they will send you all the new parts you need, or give you technical assistance.
Rated 5 out of 5 by fixsat31 great bike and complete comfort
i bought this bike online and had it sent to my home and then took it to a local bike shop which charged me only 20 dollars to seeembly it the right way, walmart doesnt do to bad a job but they always need adjustments when i got one form them. none the less this bike is simply amazing in every way the wide saddle seat is the best ive seen offered on any bike and also the handlebars are great for a big guy like myself, i am 6 foot tall and weigh 285 pounds and i have no problem with this bike at all ive rode it on trail and pavement and it does great , had this bike about a week now and rode every day and get about 6 miles a day on it and its the nicest bike for comfort to buy by far, bar none..

This bike is such a nice ride! Got the bike $20.00 cheeper buying on-line and having delivered to the store!
Rated 5 out of 5 by Navdough Great Bike for Around $150
I was looking for a simple beach cruiser to ride the beach bike trails near her house. This bike fit the bill perfectly.
The bike was pretty much what I expected in a $150 beach cruiser... heavy, simple, and fun! I have an expensive mountain bike that is much better at getting from point A to point B, but this bike is more about style. At the beaches, it's much cooler to have a cruiser than it is an expensive mountain bike. And with a cruiser, your ride is more upright and relaxed.. I think that even helps you enjoy the sights more!
"Assembly" wasn't as complicated as you'd think. The bike arrives 95% assembled. The only reason it's not 100% is so that it will fit in a reasonably sized box. The only problems I had were the lack of two screws for a fender (which the manufacturer is now sending to me) and a dent on top of the book rack. I'm delaying putting on the book rack and using those screws to put the front fender on. I don't even care enough about the dent in the book rack to try to get a replacement. I'm having some problems with shifting, but I just need to get a quick bike tune-up to get the gearing perfect, as I was expecting.
One other unexpected thing was that the top bar and the two smaller bars running alongside made it not fit well in my bike rack. I added the "Allen Bicycle Adaptor Bar", and that works very well. An extra $20 expense, though.
So in summary, I wanted a cheap, low-risk, pretty beach cruiser, and that's exactly what I got. I'm happy, my girlfriend is happy, and I've bumped into a few people that were jealous of my bike! One of my better investments for $150!

I purchased this bike in store. A quick ride down the aisle and a cursery inspection of the bike didn't prepare me for what I was in for. To begin, the shifting was out of alignment. It wasn't until I took it on a mile ride that included several gear changes that it became quite evident. Second, the front rim wasn't true. It was out of alignment in two areas that caused it to make contact with the brakes. I attempted to adjust the brakes to compensate for this which, in the end, failed. While doing so I discovered how cheap the front bearings were. A simple free spin of the front tire revealed that it would rotate only a few times before stopping. This meant there was quite a bit of drag. I'm a bike enthusiast and ride a Cannondale road bike regularly. I pride myself on being able to maintain a decent pace without blowing out my legs. This bike was purchased so I could ride with my family. The effort required to maintain even a lower speed (7-10mph) was extreme. This bike was very laborous and exhausting to operate for any given distance. I give Walmart an A+ for taking the bike back without issue. I did purchase the mens hybrid and will write my review after I put a few miles in on it.
Rated 4 out of 5 by ChiTown1234 I liked this product. I did site to store and the bike was a little difficult to assemble. I had to take to a bike store to put together. I am 5'9 and the bike is semi-difficult but once you get on it is a good ride. Not a speed bike, but definitely a good cruiser. I get a lot of attention with this bike. Everyone loves the way it looks like a classic schwinn. Overall I would recommend.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Kiebeck Good looking bike
I chose to have the bike shipped to my nearest store. The people at the Wal-Mart store were very nice and prompt in pulling my order from their store warehouse. The box the bike came in was in excellent condition and the bike was packaged very well, no scratches, dents, or missing parts. The bike went together fairly easy but the problem began when I was done with assembly.
Both the front and back tire would not hold air, Also it was apparent that my bike had the wrong kick stand attached. I called warranty repair number for Schwinn and they were very nice and sent me new parts at no charge to repair the bike. I replaced the front and back tubes and the rear tire would hold air but not the front. I removed the front tube, inflated it with some air and found out that the new tube had two holes in it. I bought an inner tube patch kit and did the repair. I replaced the kick stand with the correct one and adjusted the brakes and now I can ride it. While changing the tubes I found out that the tires are very thin and flimsy. I don’t know how well it will hold up considering I’ve had the bike for three weeks and I haven’t been able to ride it.
Rated 2 out of 5 by z71patt Not so great...
When I first got this bike I loved it. However, after putting a few miles on it i'm not liking it so much. The pedals came loose, the derailuer is junk (it has been out of whack since i bought it and i cannot seem to be able to adjust it to be able to use all of the gears), the chain rubs against the rear tire, and on the second day of owning it the front tube wouldn't keep air. So yes it looks cool, but its not really worth the trouble or the money.
Rated 5 out of 5 by abikerider1 Great for motorizing once you debug it
First I'd like to say that this bike looks great with a motor in it, real old-timey. However, it does have a list of issues which need to be taken care of first. Number one on that list is the brakes. It comes with v-brakes that have unusually long arms, presumably to clear the fenders. This really compromises braking by changing the amount of cable pull required to activate the brakes. Since the bike uses standard mountain brake levers they do not pull enough cable. If you adjust the brakes so they don't rub the rim then the levers bottom out on the handlebars. If you tighten them up so the levers don't bottom out then the brakes rub on the rim. Plus the brakes feel very spongy/soft while applying them. The solution is to replace the original v-brakes with standard v-brakes. I used some low end Promax brakes that came in gloss black and look great on the bike.
Next come the fenders and rack struts/mounts. The fender brackets that attach the fenders to the frame near the v brakes are not long enough to allow the fenders to clear the standard brakes. In addition, the fender and rack struts that attach near the axle are made of thin weak metal that WILL fail (almost all cruisers have this deficiency). I made my own fender struts and brackets out of 1/8" x 1/2" steel bar and my own rack struts out of 1/8" x 3/4" steel bar. After painting them black and mounting them they looked great and are way safer.
One quality control issue arose when I tried to install the pedals. The right side pedal threads were damaged to the point that I could not screw that pedal in. I fixed it by screwing the pedal into the other side of the hole all the way. This cleaned up the threads enough to mount the pedal normally. The other issues involved bearings that were adjusted too tightly. Specifically, both wheel bearings and the crank bearing. The headset bearing seemed fine. I decided to regrease the bearings using Superlube since I would be using the bike under higher than normal speeds and loads.
The only other adjustment needed was the shifting which is standard for any new bike. Not really necessary for me since I removed the shifter and adjusted the rear derailler limit screw to create a single speed.
The only thing lacking in this bike for my intended use is the 1" headset/fork. It would be much stronger with a 1-1/8" headset. This would also allow me to replace the rigid fork with a quality mountain bike suspension fork. If it had the 1-1/8" headset this would be the ultimate bike to motorize. Schwinn, are you listening? This would increase Schwinn's sales I guarantee.
All in all, you can't beat this deal for a new cruiser and, with a few modifications, it is almost the perfect platform for a motorized bicycle.
Rated 4 out of 5 by AK0047 Nice Bike
I have had the bike a few days and live in PB. The only complaint I have is that it wasn't built very well and needed a quick tune up at the local bike shop. After that, it drove perfectly!
Rated 5 out of 5 by flpyrate Excellent Value, Well Built
I shopped around for several weeks for a decent bike for off road use (not mountain biking). I purchased the bike online and it was ready for pickup in a few hours.
After looking at other brands firsthand and seeing what they offered (and what items they lacked), the Schwinn Clairmont is an exceptional deal. Comes with steel fenders, a back rack, 7 speeds, and front and back hand brakes. I attached a Bell rack to the front to carry additional camping gear (drilled holes in metal strips, attached to front lugs; C-clamp attached to frame). Now I have my wannabe Swiss Army MO-05 bike (lol).
At first I was a little disappointed in the plastic wheels in the Shimano gears, but this is standard for nearly all modern bikes. I would have liked a classic spring seat (the one provided has rubber shock mounts). All in all, a great bike and perfect as an inexpensive "bug out vehicle" or just casual cycling.
Rated 4 out of 5 by ChrisinWI Great Classic Schwinn For The Price
Picked this up to ride to work on nice days. I wanted something comfortable with a modern gear train and good brakes and full fenders to keep me clean. The very retro styling of this bike and all of it's features was just the ticket.
It arrived unassembled as stated and was not hard to put together. Rides comfortably and quietly. Exactly what you want from a cruiser.
The addition of 7 gears to a retro cruiser is the best thing. Allowing you to ride without getting tired nearly as easily as a single speed bike.
The paint and graphics were good quality. I like that the graphics are small and painted on, not giant stickers. The color combination of glossy black frame, tan seats and handlebars with the red wheels and big black tires is a very nice look.
I did have one issue with the bike and that being the shifter assembly was far off from accurate from the factory. It literally took a few hours to get it perfect and I had to pull up a few expert videos on You Tube to finally get it shifting smoothly and quietly. It was poorly assembled at the factory, things were way way off from normal.
The brakes also needed basic adjustment, but that went quickly and the bike's manual was enough to help with that.
For the current price, this is a good bike to use for the average commute. The luggage rack works great and saves me from having to buy bike specific bags. Two bungee cords hold my lunch bag securely all the way.
Had the shifter just needed minor tweaks as expected I'd give this bike five stars. Having to disassemble and adjust the entire mechanism for a long time before riding loses a star.

love the bike! easy to assemble, but i would recommend taking it to a bike shop to adjust the brakes and gears. great bike, people always ask where I got it and attract a lot of attention.
Rated 5 out of 5 by G450guy Beautiful retro bike!
Outstanding quality, beautiful finish, great bike. Easy to assemble. Best value for your dollar.
Gives a great ride and only has 7 gears which is easy to use. Had Schwinns growing up and this one is just as good as the ones I had when I was a kid. Highly recommend!!!!!
Rated 5 out of 5 by RetroAlaska ATTENTION, ALASKA SHOPPERS!!!
I have really never shopped at Wal-Mart or Wal-Mart.com, but I have recently moved to Alaska and wanted to buy a bike. Wal-Mart.com was one of the only national retailers that ships to Alaska (It's 2011, it's not like you have to send it via sled dog.) Other retailers that would ship to Alaska charges more for shipping than the item cost.
Wal-Mart shipped the bike AND it was delivered within 5 business days! I love this bike. It's a Scwinn and it's great! I was amazed by the vast selection of bikes offered on Wal-Mart.com, better than most of the other reatilers. Also, the reasonable shipping rate made this bike a great value...not to mention a very stylish choice, everyone has commented how much they like the "rettro" look. Wal-Mart has a new, and very satisfied, customer...and a very vocal one that is telling everyone in Alaska how great my Wal-Mart.com experience has been.
Rated 4 out of 5 by IraqVet05 Nice bike, skip the free assembly
I saw this bike at my local Wal Mart and decided to get it the next day after reading the reviews. They had 3 assembled Clairmont's in my store and I chose the only one with an owner's manual attached to the bike (Schwinn also has a generic version of the same manual on their website). When I got the bike home, I did as others suggested and checked over the bike and it's adjustment points.
First off, assembly of the bike by my local store was very questionable. The front wheel nuts were hand tight, the chain guard rubbed on the chain, the derailer wasn't aligned, one of the brake pads was rubbing the tire, the rear fender bolt (underneath the luggage rack) was in the hole but didn't have a nut on the back of it, the front and rear brakes were so tight the rims would only turn a few revolutions by hand, and the front fender bolt was obviously something they found and threw in...it was an SAE bolt with a metric nut (the rest of the bike has metric fasteners) that was about 2" too long. I opted to just buy the missing and correct metric nuts and bolt instead of returning the bike or calling the 800 number listed in the owners' manual and waiting for them to ship.
Once I corrected all the issues with assembly (no assembly instructions were included with the bike from the store), I took the bike for a ride with my kids and enjoy the comfort of the ride and easy of shifting and braking. The shifter is a ratcheting, twist type on the right handlebar and the brake levers are a bit shorter that a normal lever but still easy to operate. One thing I did not like about the bike is the cable lengths....all 3 cables are a bit too long and extend about a 18" in front of the handle bars.
Overall, this is a descent quality, comfortable bike but I would opt to get future bike purchases from Wal Mart shipped to directly to me for final assembly.

Order this online and picked it up at the store. Had to put it together but it was pretty easy. This bike is real sturdy. I would recommend this to everyone.
Rated 5 out of 5 Great Schwinn for the money
I ordered this bike online when I guess it could still be ordered online and I couldn't be happier. This particular Schwinn style was only available through Walmart and it looks better in person than it did on the website. The pictures show white wall tires and black tires. I preferred the black tires and this is luckily what I ended up with. The shipping was relatively quick and the bike was easy to put together. The rack on my bike had gotten bent in shipping, and I called Pacific Cycle and they had a replacement to me within 5 days. Awesome warranty service. I couldn't be happier with this bike and the service.
Rated 4 out of 5 by retired7yrs nice bike
Liked the looks of the bike all but the red rims on the bike a bit flashy with all the black. Over all excluding the rims I am mostly satisfied with the bike.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Geazer Inexpensive quality - Just what I was looking for.
I wanted a name I knew (I am the original owner of a 40 year old Schwinn). This is exactly what I was looking for to beat around town in and the occasional bike path. Not to fancy - just right for the exersize a geazer like me needs.
Rated 5 out of 5 by redshooter A very impressing bike... everyone keeps looking.
When I was a child I owned a bike very similar to this one. I always wanted bikes with big tires like this one. It is a very good riding bike and you can't beat the price!. I really love my bike.
Rated 5 out of 5 by minilife Rides as great as it looks!
I bought this bike for my husband and it absolutely hit the mark! It arrived quickly and was well packed. We had someone help us assemble it who is familiar with bike-building. The assembly was easy but though it called for normal tools, it was helpful to have our friend's bike-specific tools and his expertise. The bike rides smoothly and looks great! We added a dairy crate to the rear shelf which adds to the retro look (and of course adds storage)... we also added a Schwinn cup holder and bell to the handlebar. A great value for a great bike!
Rated 4 out of 5 by JScooterB So far, so good
I have enjoyed the bike so far. It has a very smooth ride. Assembly was not that difficult. The only non-standard tool for assembly that was required was a hex allen wrench. I didn't have one of those.
Rated 5 out of 5 by florman Good bike for riding around the neighborhood
Had some trouble putting it together but took it to the local Walmart and the bike technician/associate fixed my problem and the bike works very well.
Rated 2 out of 5 by SouthernAZconsumer Front Fender was Dented
The front fender was dented when I received the bike and some hardware was missing which was needed to complete the assembly. I contacted Schwinn and they agreed to send a replacement fender to my home free of charge to me. The replacement fender arrived with a scratch and wouldn't fit because it was the wrong part anyway.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Riversider I bought this bike because of it's overall look. Was VERY disapointed when it arrived with blackwall tires. Wanted the look of the 50' I bought the bike for. Called to complain to the supplier but was blown off. Would not have purchased this with blackwall tires. No recourse,
