I dont understand all the bad reviews about this product! Me & my husband love this dresser! The drawers slide in & out very easily & are roomier than our old dresser! We love the way it looks! It compliments our bedroom very nicely! It did take awhile to put together but we did put it together without any problems! Its very sturdy, we have our 42 inch plasma sitting on it. We are so pleased that we are ordering the maple one for our 5 & 7 year olds bedroom! I couldnt be happier & I wouldnt pick any other dresser!

I ordered this product for a new bedroom in my home. after i ordered it i had read some reviews saying it was flimsy or lop sided, which made me extreamly upset but i decided to put it together anyway. I found that the dresser is as sturdy as can be and not lop sided at all. i am impressed with the dresser and will be purchasing other smaller South Shore dressers from walmart.com. the instuctions were easy to follow and i was able to put it together all by myself
Rated 4 out of 5 by anwessel For the price, good dresser
Overall, this dresser is a bit lack-luster -- but you really can't beat it for the price.
Putting it together was not easy -- and I've done far more complicated projects. Once it is done, it is nice though. I wouldn't recommend storing anything too heavy in the drawers though, the sliders are just plastic.
Rated 5 out of 5 by WeekendWarrior24 Great BANG for the BUCK
I am writing this review to hopefully help future buyers with their decision. I recently bought this dresser and after assembly was a little irritated but very happy with the end result. The instructions were very user friendly and easy to follow. The overall assembly took a little bit of time but all of the pieces were present and I had no issues distinguishing between the various sizes of screws. A word of advice, when you are finished with the main box portion of the dresser, make sure it is square like the instructions say. Don't assume!! The only complaint I have on the whole assembly portion of the dresser is that one step of the drawer assembly is a pain in the butt if you screw it in by hand. I would suggest completely one drawer by hand and then bringing in a screw gun to finish the rest of them. This will save the palms of your hands from pushing and screwing manually!
As far as the quality of the dressers go, I am very satisfied. They look absolutely great. They are very sturdy and I have no fears of them tipping over or falling apart if I have to move them. The only complaint I have as far as the quality goes is that the drawer sliders are plastic. Though I was somewhat upset when i first opened them up and saw plastic sliders, after a little bit of research I have realized that they get the job done. So far I can't say the plastic sliders have done me wrong, but I can't help but feel they won't last nearly as long as stainless steal sliders.
Overall this is a great product. It's not going to be a solid oak dresser that is going to last 50 years or more, but it will definately stay together a long time for you. I would suggest this product to anyone who wants black furniture in their bedroom at a very affordable price. I am very pleased with what I have gotten for the money I paid. Hopefully this review helps you!
Rated 4 out of 5 by NoMoreCollegeDorm 95% Exactly What I Expected
First, I'd like you to know that I am 30 something SWF and I've been waiting, for what seems like eternity, for the furniture I would truly love and cherish, and be able to afford to appear. As by this product review you can see that it has not and I was forced by the rapid decline of my current ensemble to do something.... I did my homework and read all the reviews and eventually settled on this set. It suited my style, and is functional for me and, of course, it was in my price range.
I was a little hesitant based on some of the negative reviews I read and now that everything is assembled I think I understand why:
1) Some folk were surprised that nothing was at least partially assembled: It says right on the product description that assembly is required.
2) Some thought it was flimsy: I feel it is exactly what is to be expected from MDF furniture.
3) Some thought it took too long to put together: Are these people who have some basis for comparison as to how long it takes to build furniture?
4) Some said the hardware didn't line up with the prefabricated holes and that additional tools were required: Although some of the hardware required a little manual manipulation all of my 'Tab A's' fit in to my 'Slot B's' and a hammer and screwdriver are all I used for all six pieces.
I put most of these pieces together by myself with an occassional hand from someone of the muscular persuasion. If you read the instructions thoroughly and have patience you should have no problem assembling these items.
Here are my top complaints:
1) The furniture boxes are so heavy we could barely get them in the truck & up the stairs.
2) The fixing bracket for the drawer is a nightmare. Try to get the bracket flush to its piece before trying to screw it in the attachment piece. Trust my bruised thumbs on this one.
3) The drawers are smaller than I expected.
4) There isn't enough hardware provided to ensure the stability of the headboard to the bed frame. The headboard is waiting for my trip to Home Depot for help.
All in all I am most pleased with my $750 bedroom set.
Rated 4 out of 5 by aymay Its held up!
I bought this dresser 2 years ago. It has made it through a move from Ky to Ga and Ga to AL. My drawers are over stuffed with clothes and not one piece of this dresser has yet to give out (knock on wood).. I remember it took hours to put it together and I was shocked at the cheap plastic and cardboard but I am OVERLY impressed this dresser still seems like new two years later. Im about to buy a matching piece.
Rated 3 out of 5 by DecorIsFun It's very time consuming to assemble and the paint chips very easily. If one doesn't look too closely, it does look like a better quality piece than it really is.
Rated 2 out of 5 by Cherry03 Falls Apart!!!
First of all, it took my fiance a few hours to "attempt" putting this dresser together. When I saw it online I loved the overall look and the price. It was incredibly flimsy and cheaply made. My fiance actually had to bolt the top of the dresser on so that it wouldn't completely fall apart. Then, after a week of having it...I go to put in a few shirts in the middle drawer and the bottom of the drawer falls out!!! Not worth the money at all, and now I am back to square one with trying to find a new dresser!
Rated 5 out of 5 by FlyinHawaiian GREAT FOR GUEST ROOMS, BUT NOT FOR EVERYDAY USE
I needed a dresser/mirror for my 2nd guest bedroom and decided to purchase this dresser for practicality. I like the look of it, but not the quality of it. The drawers are flimsy, but it will do for a guest bedroom or for a room that won't get used as much. I had this product delivered and it arrived FedEx. No damage when I received it. The box weight is 111 pounds. VERY Heavy and it states that 2 people are needed to move it. I, however, moved it myself easily across my laminate floors :) When I got to the stairs, I had to carry it up by pieces. Assembly wise, it took me close to 3 hours to put the dresser/matching mirror together. You'll need a hammer, philips screw driver as well as a flat head. I used my power screwdriver set to put the dresser together (saved alot of time!) The matching mirror wasn't easy to assemble by myself, but I did it! You should really have someone help you. Over all, I like the look of it and it fits perfectly in my guest room without taking up too much space.
Rated 4 out of 5 by HydensMom My husband put it together. It took about an hour. It was pretty easy, just time consuming. It was smaller than I imagined but it does the job. Our room looks much bigger now without bulky furniture.
Rated 1 out of 5 by ellicottcityrf BROKEN PARTS & DIFFICULT TO ASSEMBLE
I ORDERED THIS DRESSER VIA SITE TO STORE WHICH WAS NICE BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY SHIPPING; HOWEVER, THIS MEANT I HAD TO CARRY IT UP 3 FLIGHTS OF STAIRS AND IT IS EXTREMELY HEAVY (JUST OVER 100 LBS).
WHEN WE OPENED IT UP, THERE WERE 2 PARTS THAT WERE BROKEN STRAIGHT THROUGH. WE KNEW RETURNING IT WOULD BE MORE OF A HASSLE BECAUSE WE'D HAVE TO RE-PACKAGE IT, LUG IT DOWN THE STAIRS, DRIVE IT BACK TO THE STORE, ETC. AND THEN WE'D STILL BE WITHOUT THE DRESSER WE NEEDED.
THIS DRESSER WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO ASSEMBLE. IT TOOK US OVER 6 HOURS TO BUILD.
IT HAS SO MANY DIFFERENT PARTS. THE "WOODEN" (COMPOSITE WOOD) PARTS ARE LABELED; HOWEVER, THE SCREWS, NAILS, PLASTIC PIECES, ETC. ARE NOT LABELED. FURTHERMORE, THEY WERE MIXED IN THE PLASTIC BAGS THAT CONTAINED THEM AND THE BAGS WEREN'T LABELED. THEY WERE DIFFERENT COLORS (I.E. SOME SCREWS WERE SILVER, OTHERS BLACK, OTHERS BRONZE), BUT THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL DID NOT SPECIFY WHAT COLOR EACH PART NEEDED FOR A PARTICULAR STEP WAS.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Heyybud Putting this together was a nightmare
I assemble furniture and have never complained on line about anything, but putting this dresser together was a nightmare. The directions are shotty, just pcitures, no verbiage. There must be over 100 pieces, and putting this together took over 6 hours. Once completed it looks good, but you should not buy this piece of work. If the manufacturer can not do better with the instructions, I would never, ever buy again from these people. It was absolutely a nightmare.
Not only would I not recommend this to a friend, I would not recommend this to my worst enemy.
Rated 2 out of 5 by Tennesseedoe Listen to the reviews!
After reading the reviews, I decided I would be fine putting this monster together, since I'd had a few similar pieces (self assembly, particle board) over the years. HA! It is flimsy, it DOES contains hundreds of tiny parts, and it DOES take a long time to assemble. After spending many hours putting it together (screw holes in wrong places, didn't fit, etc), I decided to move it up against the wall and it came apart at the seams! I used two 1x4 from Lowes and my own hardware to brace it up, since there was no returning it at that point. It works now and I must say it looks pretty, but that's the extent of the positives for this product.
NOTE: DON'T use the small plastic pegs to hold the drawers--they're not placed correctly and drawer fronts won't work. Also, place drawer fronts on BEFORE screwing them in. Finally, you may want to add extra supports like I did to keep the sides from separating from the top and bottom. Good luck!
Rated 1 out of 5 by proudnanny1 Not at all what we expected
I ordered this for my daughter and son-n-law, it was very poor quality. Once it was assembled it was so flimsy it wouldn't stand up straight. I usually am very happy with products from walmart, but not this time! We returned it for a refund.
Rated 3 out of 5 by NewNole There's only a few things I'd like to say about this dresser. Obviously I like the appearance; It's why I bought it. It holds clothes, which is what it should do.
It IS a pain to put together. I typically don't have trouble with these types of furniture, but this one was VERY time-consuming and moderately difficult.
The only features that were really disappointing were: the drawers have a lot of resistance when you pull on them and the drawers are smaller than I anticipated.
Honestly, if I were to go back, I might not re-purchase this. I feel that the price is a bit high for what I got. I feel like I payed for the appearance.
Rated 5 out of 5 by nanduri81 Great Value for money
I read a lot of reviews and was sceptical about buying this but I am totally impressed with it. It took me over 4 hours to assemble this unit but it is totally worth it. I check a lot a furniture stores before buying this product and trust me it's more value than the money you pay. Totally recommend it.
Rated 2 out of 5 by curiosa83 Very cheap materials
I purchased the whole set: night stand, this dresser and mirror, tall dresser... And it only took me a few minutes after opening the box to realize I had made a mistake so I took the whole thing back. The material is so cheap that it almost looks like cardboard. One of the pieces fell apart in my hands as soon as I took it out of the box. It has like 200 different pieces so it looks like a big hassle to put together. I'm sure it was gonna look okay once assembled, but only thinking about it gave me a headache. If you don't mind to spend a whole day assembling this and you are lucky enough to get all the pieces in good shape and they don't fall apart in your hands, I guess you could give this dresser a try. Fortunately I only had to take it back to the store and didn't have to pay an expensive shipping.
Rated 1 out of 5 by pattysweets Hours of Frustration missing Pieces
I purchased a few pieces of furniture from South shore and all the other furniture I purchased from them were fine - except for this dresser . the item arrived with several missing pieces - the frame took about an hout to put together - however the draws are a whole different story ! I received the draw pieces in different sizes , missing side pieces , as well as missing railings . I am so frustrated with this product - that I am willing to count it as a lost and just purchased an already assembled dresser - I would like to return but the box that it came it is destroyed from opening it . ( you literally have to tear it open . I called up the company to have the missing pieces sent to me - and they told me I had to call back on a differnt day - OMG sooo frustrated I will never order from south Shore again . it is not worth all of the frustration and time .
Rated 4 out of 5 by TheoWalmart The dresser looks great. Assembly was somewhat time consuming. It was recommended that two people do the assembly but I did it by myself so that also increased the time.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Tracyn4kids Great for kids/teens room
Ordered for my 13 yr old daughter. She loves it, we have the whole set. Only problem I can see so far is it takes a bit to put together, but seems very sturdy and we love it. Would suggest keeping all screws etc in package because they aren't labeled and its easier to find what you need that way. Other than that it's great! :)
Rated 1 out of 5 by brianp18 3 of the boards broken
Rated 4 out of 5 by AgentMoocow Very Nice
I bought the whole set and love it. The wood is a little easy to break and it does pick up finger prints easy but all-inall I'm glad I spent the money and bout it. It looks wonderful in our bedroom.
Rated 1 out of 5 by RedCrossGirl My friend and I put this together. The instructions were horrible, some of the particle board was warped, and many of the holes did not line up. It took us about 5 hours, and had it not been for a friend who happened to stop by, we would not have gotten it together at all. We held the warped pieces in place while he drilled, so it did come together. However it did not last long, within a few weeks the warped boards were pulling out so much that the drawers would not work properly. It now sits in my spare room with off-season clothes in it, with 2 of the drawers sitting on top.
If you are experienced with assembling furniture, you might be able to make this work, I believe it could have been a beautiful piece.
I love South Shore's beautiful collections, but I'll never buy another piece of theirs again.
Rated 1 out of 5 by jlwshopper A nightmare to assemble
This dresser is a nightmare to assemble. I assembled the dresser following the line by line instructions. The wholes were not lined up properly. The drawers don't fully close. Like I said, I read the instructions carefully but the dresser looks horrible.
Rated 4 out of 5 by BER85 Great buy!
I bought this item a while back and I am happy to say it still looks like it did the day I put it together. It has held up quite nicely! Let me say, I don't have kids or pets so I am not too sure how those would factor into it... I have the one in chocolate and I was successfully able to put it together by myself. It is very heavy in the box though! So I did need help getting it up into my apartment. The only real drawback was that it seemed to take FOREVER to put together because of all the drawers.
My advice would be 1) Have good tools on hand! Good hammer, screwdriver or even drill to make it faster. 2) Recruit an assistant. 3) Plan on a good 3 or so hours to put it together.
Like I said though, it has been really great. No scratches or chips when I took it out of the box although, I think it did come with a touch-up marker. Drawers are spacious enough to fit a good 6 pairs of adult jeans per drawer. Overall, I am very happy with this product and would definitely recommend it.
Rated 4 out of 5 by adamWNY Nice looking, fuctional value dresser
for the price this dresser is great. took about 1 1/2 hrs. to assemble. the black finish is really attractive. All the interior hardware (drawer glides, etc...) are plastic on plastic. This is an attractive VALUE dresser! The drawers will not take tons of weight or abuse. I wouldn't recommend for a child room. The drawers aren't impressively deep but do the job. I have a 32" crt tv sitting on top of this in my bedroom and its sturdy, TV weighs about 75lbs. Due to the plastic hardware inside and the variance in injection molding (which is how plastics are made into forms) the draws don't align perfectly in the front. there's a slight skew to the left or right on most of the drawers, but this being black on black you can't really see it. When assembling, make sure the drawer glides are all the way in, use the supplied spacer and a mallet to get them even and flat, this will eliminate most of the skew of the drawers. For the price this is a great value.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Ranchoman Nice dresser but long assembly time
Dresser is very nice for price and is doubling as a TV stand. However, it requires extensive assembly. Probably the most of any item I have ever purchased. Over 20 steps and literally hundreds of parts. It comes out very nice in the end but it was about 3 hours to put it all together. Free home delivery was fantastic but the box was dropped off on my front porch and it was much too heavy to bring upstairs where the assembled dresser needed to be. We had to open the box and take everything out and carry the pieces and parts upstairs in several trips. Dresser is sturdy particle board and finish looks sturdy. Completed drawers slide in and out smoothly and look like they will hold together well and are roomy. Overall very satisfied and would recommend as a great value.
Rated 5 out of 5 by riotmn extremely advanced kit. well worth it!!!!
This kit has 9,000 parts and the manual is geared toward the mechanically inclined. If you take your time...All of it. You will be very well rewarded. After 10 hours of work my dresser looks exactly like the picture and operates even better. in short; if you have the time and skill, you can have a dresser that looks and feels like 400 bucks for $160 delivered to your door in about a week nomatter where you are in the country. TWO GREAT BIG THUMBS UP!!!
Rated 4 out of 5 by Netsoke Easy to assemble, good product for price.
This dresser was easy enough to assemble, it just took a little while longer because of the 6 drawers. Also make sure you insert the Right-side drawers on the righthand side and the Left-side drawers on the lefthand side. I reversed them and thought I had a deffective product. Oops.. Although these are made out of pressboard I feel that I got a great deal for how much I spent on an entire bedroom set.
