The movie version of Jane Austen's classic book is, what you might call, the abridged version. It hits most all the high points of the story, while cutting out the total draggy parts from the book. I found that in itself to be worth my time.
Also, "Emma" features one of Kate Beckinsale's earlier works. She sings a song, she has silly hair, she plays Emma very well - all very entertaining.
Have a go at this classic.

I really didn't think it was the best move, although I own two different versions of the same movie. It was just okay.

I've seen several movie versions of Jane Austen's novel, Emma. The Gyneth Paltrow version is more humorous--a little more relational for the general public of today. However, if you're a classics fan, this Masterpiece Theatre production is enjoyable and well done--great character protrayal.

This abridged version of Emma is better than the Gwenith Paltrow version. Well acted and true to the era. Prunella Scales who plays the wonderful, talkative Miss Bates did a great job. I’m not too sure why a producer wouldn’t spend a little more time on being more faithful to the novel as was done with “Pride and Prejudice” with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. The underlying story would not change, but it would allow the audience to spend a little more time with the characters.

This is a wonderful, delightful movie--enjoyable for all ages, it is refreshing bringing back the times that have been almost forgotten and need to be remembered--the cast acting scenery is wonderful . I would highly recommend and enjoy watching over and over,

As with all of Jane Austen's story lines, Emma is a
great love story. The movie was well-done and its
a pleasure to watch. No vulgarity, just a nice, stay-
home movie that has a moving ending and leaves you feeling good. True love triumphs! A great family picture I would recommend for anyone.
