Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Geek Movie EVER!! FANBOYS Starring Sam Huntington, Chris Marquette, Dan Folger, Jay Baruchel, and Kristen Bell The year is 1998. Four life-long but recently estranged friends reunite at a Halloween costume party which leads to the problems that caused them to drift apart over the last four years. When Eric (Huntington) learns that Linus (Marquette) has a terminal illness, he hatches a plan for a road trip. Eric, Linus, Hutch (Fogler) and Windows (Baruchel) decide that as one last trip with all four of them together, they will go to California, break-in to Skywalker Ranch, and watch "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace" before it is released to theaters. They have talked about this adventure since they were six years old and now with death threatening to break them apart, they decide, "why not?". From the middle East Coast area, they travel across the United States in their decked out Star Wars themed van. (Wait until you see the van!! Trust me!) Along the way, they have adventure after adventure and the characters that they meet along the way are absolutely wonderful and full of life. Their friendships become stronger and as they come closer to their goal, they must ask what they are willing to do to reach it when it becomes more apparent that Linus really is sick. This is a wonderful, hilarious, and enjoyable road-trip friendship movie. I laughed out loud throughout this film. I was laughing so hard I had to wipe my eyes several times. What a truly wonderfully witty and endearing movie. The cameos will leave you gasping. I was so impressed with everyone who did a quick part for this little film. The humor and the fan boy bonuses where absolutley rewarding. This movie follows the adventure of four Star Wars based friends but never fear, they do run into their share of Star Trek fans. Some of the truly funniest scenes had battle cries being called as the two forces met. There was even a stop in Austin, Texas! The Las Vegas Star Trek convention is also chalked full of big belly laughs. I am not sure that anyone who doesn't "geek" a little about Star Wars or Star Trek (or anything for that matter) MAY not see the absolute humor that this movie carries. With the movie quotes, the episode mentions, and the other pop culture references; it might fall short on reaching the "non-geek" audience. You must understand the "fan boy" mind frame to TRULY enjoy the clever and witty humor of this film. So, I definitely recommend this one. Although it does not need the big screen for any type of special effects, it is without a doubt, worth the full price admission. It is now at the top of my "MUST buy DVD" list. I cannot recommend this one enough. But I do have to stress that if you don't understand the "fan boy" world, you might be left lost. That is my reveiew and I am sticking to it. See you at the theaters. Char 06/22/2009
