Rated 4 out of 5 by AntonioAndVilla Amazing Capacity, Somewhat Annoying Operation
If you're looking for an extremely high capacity backup medium, with multiple interfaces for compatibility and like me, want a separately-powered unit so as not to slow down the xfer and drain an already overloaded USB 2.0 bus on your computer (USB 2.0 limits bandwidth on each port meaning it can never equal Firewire speeds), then go with a Firewire connection as I have done for very impressive transfer speed (or eSATA for even faster xfers).
I would give 5 stars for this drive, despite the high price (you're paying for multiple interfaces & high capacity & separate power supply) if it were not for the built-in "feature" of auto-spinning down after 1 minute of inactivty. This would not be an issue for a backup drive, but as a primary storage device, as I use it, it's terribly annoying hearing it spin down right before I read from the thing again and have to wait 5 seconds for it to spin back up.
2nd issue that was annoying was that despite what the printed manual says, there is a sheet stating that it is pre-formatted for Macintosh computers. I had to format it to NTFS for the PC and that took 1-1/2 hours to do, which was not pleasant.
Other than the initial formatting issue and the annoying spin-down after 1 minute, this drive is very fast (on Firewire) and the capacity is unbelievable - it has allowed us at a reasonable price to store everything we have and more, with plenty of room to spare, which is the main thing we got it for. The fact that it's fast doing it (using Firewire or eSATA) is SOO nice, as is the USB 2.0 connectivity for when you want to take it with somewhere else and others only have USB 2.0 to work with...
Oh, also it's small and unobtrusive, stands on its side with it's own little stand, and is relatively quiet.
