Rated 4 out of 5 by ***Fun Summertime Shooter*** If you are reading this review, then I take it you are thinking of purchasing this game because it looks cool, but at the same time, you are kinda iffy about it due to the fact that you probably haven't heard that much about it. The game is AWESOME in my opinion!! I gave it 4 stars. I enjoyed the single player campaign Within minutes of the game starting, FPS veterans will immediately notice aspects of COD4 and Bioshock. Although this game is neither of the two by a long shot, but it does try and throw tactical situations at you in the first mission. I mention Bioshock because of the fact that the game does a good job of placing the player in an enviroment that was very much alive back in the 50s. The player will experience flashbacks similar to those you experienced if you played bioshock to give you the visual of what happened in the past. Also, there are audio logs littered throughout the environment to give you more of an insight as to what is going on similar to those found in Bioshock and also various notes and letters too. The graphics are really nice, but again nothing you haven't seen before in previous FPSs. The controls, thank heavens are really tight, but the combat could be a lot better, but nothing to complain about. This brings me to the TMD (Time Manipulation Device) is.the star of the show. I think this is what separates Singularity from other FPSs. The TMD feels a lot like the Plasmids in Bioshock. You can use this device to control time, the condition of certain objects in the game world....for example..let's say a monster destroyed a switch needed to open a door to proceed forward..well, you can use the device to bring the switch back to its original state so you can use it to gain access through the door. On the flip side, you can also age the switch to where its broken again so no one else can use it. I am unsure if you will actually be in that specific situation late on in the game, but you can age objects just as you can bring them to a "new" state. Singularity sort of blends the Cold War with new age technology, so the weapons that I have acquired in the game so far (revolver, shotgun, assault rifle, and sniper rifle) have a sort of futuristic look and feel to them. The voice-overs are done very well so far and the frame rate seems to be on point as well. I haven't gotten into the multiplayer aspect of the game as of yet, but Game Informer said that it was pretty sick! The TMD does have plenty of possibilities to bring a different form of strategy in death-matches though. Even though I mentioned Bioshock & COD 4, this game IS NOT either, but does use some of the same bread and butter that made those games great. The story seems interesting and in my opinion, this can easily become 5 stars by the end of the game just because it brings something just a little bit different. This review is based on the XBOX 360 version of the game. I hope this review was helpful to you. 07/14/2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Game! IGN only rated this game a 7. Dont let that rating make up your mind. This game is a lot like Bioshock. The game starts out explaining a weapon that was developed by the Soviet Union in the late 40's early 50's that's stronger than the Atom Bomb. The Soviets find an Element (E99) on a secret island called Katorga 12. The Element obviously had bad effects. *Now present day* The game starts with you in a helicopter (You're in the Air Force) going by this secret island, the Helicopter eventaully crashes on this island and you begin gameplay in this empty looking, mostly destroyed Katorga 12. The atmosphere is creepy, so is the music. The game keeps you on the edge of your seat while you look for clues in this desolate and scary island. If you enjoy survival horror games, first person shooters, time travel, and being entertained, get this game! You'll really enjoy it. I know I did. 10/24/2010
