Rated 4 out of 5 by SOUTH PACIFIC IS NOT A+; I GIVE IT A C+ Since I purchased the classic "How The West Was Won" in Blu-Ray DVD and was blown away by the awesome clarity they achieved from a musty vault copy of the film, I have used it to compare all other epic movies of the 1950's and 1960's. (NOTE: I highly suggest that you purchase "HOW THE WEST WAS WON"; the quality and clarity are TRUE BLU-RAY and are BREATH TAKING !!!) Therefore, I find that THIS BLU-RAY VERSION OF SOUTH PACIFIC is only FAIR/GOOD, in comparison to the perfect picture quality of "How The West Was Won"(HTWWW). I feel they could have done a better job of restoring SOUTH PACIFIC. If they were able to achieve such spectacular detail and clarity with HTWWW, then what happened to the same technical expertise concerning the restoration of SOUTH PACIFIC ? SOUTH PACIFIC is GOOD, but does not knock my socks off with awesome picture quality, as with HTWWW. I do not know who to blame here, as this quality reduction could have been due to not having a perfect copy of the movie to start with, to make the BLU-RAY DVD. However, I would somewhat recommend this BLU-RAY VERSION OF SOUTH PACIFIC, as it is FAIR/GOOD in quality and clarity; even though I do not think it is worth the high price tag. Another plus : They have added all the deleted scenes from the original release of the movie in the first theater release, before they started cutting it to reduce the time element. However, these added scenes are from BAD QUALITY FILM and are quite noticeable when they occur. 05/08/2009
