Finding the right dress for you starts with identifying the styles that make you look and feel good. In general, the most flattering dresses accentuate the smaller parts of your body and don't hug the larger parts.
Some of the major differences between dresses are in the neckline, shoulder style, skirt length and waistline. Common neckline styles include v-neck, halter, square, scoop, high neck, bateau, sweetheart, sheer, straight across, slight curve and Queen Ann. Dresses can have long sleeves, 3/4-length sleeves, short sleeves and cap sleeves. You'll also find sleeveless dresses, including double strap dresses, off-the-shoulder dresses, one-shoulder dresses and strapless dresses.
You'll find dresses with a wide range of skirt lengths, or hemlines, ranging from mini-skirt dresses to floor-length women's maxi dresses. Hi-low dresses have hemlines that are longer in the back and shorter in the front.
Waistlines vary in position and length and can accentuate your chest, waist or hips. Common styles include princess, basque, empire, dropped, natural and asymmetrical.
