An aquarium filled with brightly colored fish can create an exciting focal point in a room. As you think about what fish tank or bowl to buy, consider material, size and shape, and make sure to get the supplies you need to care for your tank and fish.
The main aquarium materials you'll have to choose from are glass and plastic. Glass is scratch-resistant and easy to clean, but glass tanks can be heavy, so acrylic may be a better choice if you expect to move yours regularly. You'll also be able to see your fish more clearly through acrylic because there's less distortion.
As a general rule, look for a fish tank that can hold one gallon of water per fish. You'll find a variety of differently shaped tanks, ranging from round bowls to square and rectangular tanks, octagons and more. Make sure to get a tank with enough surface area for your fish to rise to the top for oxygen.
In addition to the tank itself, you'll need supplies such as a heater, a filter, a light, gravel or sand, a fish net, aquarium decorations and a water-testing kit. And at Walmart, you'll find Everyday Low Prices on the equipment you need to keep your fish happy and healthy. For more tips, check out our Fish Tank Buying Guide.
